The artist has donated the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award prize money to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the Britain's independent concert spaces.

He was presented with the award on 16 October as his latest record People Watching was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the trust, in appreciation of the vital role local spots played in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing this success if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its initiatives to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his live tour to support thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

The donation supported venues that were confronting possible closure due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Other venues received monetary aid in improving infrastructure and gear that positively impacted performers and fans.

"The concept that funds from shows in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has commented.

Two years ago, the band contributed their winnings to the community center that nurtured their act, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also 1994 winners the group contributed their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," said artist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our success impacted another person's life."

Last week, the MVT shared it had saved two small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The first in that area and the second in Bristol were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who buy "shares" in the venues.
